Steve's
Steve's is a brand of eco-sustainable sneakers 100% made in Italy. founded in 2022 by two brothers: Giulia and Filippo.
It was born from the awareness that fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world, and that we can no longer afford to ignore the problem. In a year of research and testing of innovative 100% Italian materials Steve's presents the first two collections of sneakers. The goal is to bridge the gap between aesthetic beauty and sustainability, offering sneakers with a unique design and high-performance, aesthetically beautiful materials. Steve's is committed to being 100% transparent about every choice, to guarantee sustainability that embraces every aspect of the brand at 360 degrees.
Choosing Steve's means making a conscious choice, not only for the look, but also for the future of our planet.
We want to promote responsible fashion and support local Italian craftsmanship, creating a community that shares these values and works together for a more sustainable future. We are determined to demonstrate that fashion and the environment can coexist in harmony, without compromise. Steve's firmly believes in the importance of supporting the 100% Italian supply chain, from the production of the yarn to the materials up to the finished product. This is why we only source from local companies that share our values of quality, respect for the environment, safety and people's health. The short Italian supply chain not only supports local artisans, but also reduces the environmental impact by avoiding long journeys for our materials. This allows us to offer high quality products with a minimal environmental footprint.
We are Giulia and Filippo, two brothers united by a shared passion for the tradition of Italian footwear and for environmental sustainability. We founded Steve's in 2022 with the aim of creating high quality Made in Italy shoes with zero impact on the environment. After a year of research and development, we are proud to present a community of suppliers and collaborators who share our values and who work together as one big family to create unique and eco-sustainable shoes.
Steve's in turn has a family history: it was born in 2015 as a French brand created by our uncle, with the idea of filling a gap in the market: men's lace-up shoes in colored velvet. To continue this passion shared in the family, we decided to take over the brand, to transfer it to Italy, to create an innovative start-up that would continue a tradition and a shared passion with the addition of an indispensable value for us: respect for nature and what surrounds us.
A year of research and development, repeatedly testing innovative Italian materials. With the help of suppliers who took our project to heart, in one year we managed to launch the two Steve's Sneakers collections, achieving 70% less than the environmental impact of normal sneakers on the market
Product and materials
Steve's are produced entirely in Italy. The materials used for the shoes are eco-sustainable, produced in Italy and, in most cases, in the Marche region. The actual production, with the assembly of the shoes, takes place in the province of Novara, in Borgomanero, at a family-run shoe factory that has been creating handmade footwear made in Italy for generations.
Steve's are produced with eco-sustainable and high quality materials. The upper is made of Appleskin, a bio-leather obtained from the peels of Trentino apples. The lining is in bio-leather produced in Vigevano. The velvet details that characterize the brand are upcycling, recovered from the waste of large productions in the fashion industry. The latter make Steve's limited edition and unique. Steve's Leaf sole is produced exclusively for Steve's, with a unique design, and the blend is a 50% recycled TPU and infinitely recyclable. We use water-based or natural latex glues, organic organic cotton laces, 100% biodegradable and recyclable toe caps, counters and assembly parts, and the assembly insole is in 100% recycled raw cellulose from the paper industry supply chain. The sewing threads are 100% recycled. We do not use nails and the eyelets are cut without using metal hoops. The fussbett is made of an eco-sustainable Gaja material and covered in the same material as the lining. The logo on it is cold-branded without the use of paints or chemicals. Production takes place in the province of Novara, at a family-run shoe factory, where for generations they have been creating handmade footwear made in Italy.
We have worked hard to combine Italian craftsmanship with innovative Italian eco-sustainable materials, without ever compromising. We worked with a certified external partner to certify every material, manufacturing process and supply chain, including the travel required to produce a single pair of Steve's. Our strength lies precisely in the short, Italian production chain, which allows us to produce only 4.83 kg of CO2 per pair of Steve's, compared to the average of 15 kg of CO2 per pair of sneakers. Our materials are all 100% recycled or recyclable, all of Italian origin and processed and produced exclusively in Italy. The result? Eco-sustainable sneakers, respectful of the environment and of great quality, extremely elegant and fashionable. Choosing Steve's means making a conscious choice for our planet, without giving up the style and quality you look for in a sneaker.
The environmental impact of laundry detergents and household cleaners is devastating for our planet, so we strongly recommend using eco-friendly detergents. Appleskin is a leatherette and as such requires a lot of attention when washing. Imitation leather is more delicate than leather of animal origin, we therefore recommend removing stains/encrustations with a smooth sponge soaked in a little water and a pinch of ecological detergent. If the stain persists, leave to soak for 5/8 minutes.
Packaging
Steve's stands out for its unique and sustainable packaging: a 100% recycled steel box in Italy, certified by the RICREA consortium. Inspired by the biscuit boxes of the past, this elegant and artisanal packaging was designed to solve the problem of the excessive use of cardboard boxes. The steel box can be reused as a plant pot, inside which you will find everything you need for the transformation: vacuum-packed Italian organic soil, our paper brochure of plantable seeds with seeds to grow aromatic plants for the home and Kitchen. You will only have to cut and plant the brochure in Italian soil to watch them grow. The Steve's logo on the box was sandblasted by hand using sustainable methods (air and sand), without the use of paints or chemical materials. To find out more, learn more about our packaging in the Journey section of our website
The vase is created using the recycled and recyclable steel box included in the Steve's packaging. First, you need to open the box and remove the product inside. Subsequently, you must open the included organic soil sachet and pour it into the steel box. Then, you need to take the included brochure, cut it into pieces and bury it together with the soil. Finally, just water the soil and the included herb seeds, and you will soon see your seedlings growing. In this way, the steel box becomes a vase for your plants, giving a new life and sustainable use to the product packaging.
The first shoots appear after approximately 7/14 days. Continue to give your sprouts love and attention even after germination

1. Wet the paper First, wet the paper well. And we mean really well! Only in this way will the paper be able to biodegrade so that the seeds can germinate.
2. Place the paper in the organic Italian soil we provided. The best time for planting outdoors is from May to October. Indoors paper can be planted all year round.
3. Cover the paper with soil with about 1cm (maximum 1.5cm) of soil. This way the seeds will receive enough nutrients, protection and light to germinate. If you cover the paper with a layer of soil too thick, the seeds will germinate less quickly or not at all.
4. Water, water and more water. At the beginning, give a little water every day to keep the paper always moist. It is best to use a sprayer so that the paper is wetted evenly. A watering can or a cup without a spout can prevent the paper from getting wet everywhere and therefore all the seeds from germinating.
5. Sun, warmth and lots of love. Finally, place the paper in a bright, warm place. However, be careful to avoid a place in full sun, especially in summer, because the paper can dry out and the seeds may not germinate. Now is the time to have just a little patience! The first shoots will appear after approximately 7/14 days. Continue to give your sprouts love and attention even after germination. At this point you can give a little less water than in the first week.
We chose an aromatic herb garden in our seed mix with oregano, thyme and basil. Did you know that oregano is an excellent ally of digestion? For this reason it is used as a decoction and infusion. It is also antispasmodic, antiseptic, calming and analgesic. Among the many uses there is also that of naturally repelling ants. Instead, thyme essential oil is used for therapeutic purposes and is very suitable because it stimulates the immune system! Basil is a plant that has always been used to aid the intestine in digestion and to stimulate the appetite. But the same are excellent ingredients for a perfect homemade pizza!!!
Sustainability projects
Steve's supports several projects through its partner platform Green Future Project. Their mission is to contribute to the regeneration and conservation of nature, therefore engaging in numerous projects to achieve this objective. Through the planting project, for example, we help regenerate degraded forests to re-establish biodiversity. This is done through planting at the Vilamatsa site and the Marovolavo site, both sites located in Madagascar. This project allows us to restore terrestrial and marine biodiversity, absorb CO2 and concretely help local communities by involving them in planting, managing mangroves and offering them long-term work. Furthermore, through conservation projects, we preserve the Canandè reserve in Ecuador, home to the Chocò, one of the five most important and threatened biodiversity hotspots in the world. We also help conserve and protect the Narupa Reserve, part of the heart of the Amazon and home to many endemic species. Thanks to the support and direct collaboration with NGOs, local populations and the use of advanced technologies, we are able to preserve these biodiversity hotspots in the long term. We are very proud of these projects and continue to be committed to the good of our planet
We are very proud to collaborate with Green Future Project as our partner in sustainability. Green Future Project is a B-CORP certified company committed to providing solutions to combat climate change. Thanks to their portfolio of projects with high environmental impact, Green Future Project offers the possibility of financing the regeneration and conservation of nature reserves, the development of renewable energy plants and the regeneration of marine habitats. In particular, each sale of Steve's sneakers is compensated through the financing of GFP's high environmental impact projects. Furthermore, through an interactive widget, any person can discover in real time how the environmental impact of every single Steve's is reduced. By partnering with the Green Future Project, we are able to do our part in the fight against climate change and create a sustainable future for all.
Life cycle analysis (LCA) is a systematic and analytical methodology that allows you to evaluate the environmental impact of a product or service during its entire life cycle, starting from the extraction of raw materials until final disposal. The main objective of LCA is to understand and evaluate the environmental impact generated by a product or service in the different phases of its life cycle, through an objective and technically reasoned evaluation. At the end of the calculations, the environmental footprint is returned through different "impact categories", which represent all the environmental impacts generated in the various environmental sectors. The LCA study helps to understand the impact generated on the environment by products, services, economic systems and production chains and constitutes a technical basis for a wide range of actions aimed at increasing the sustainability of products and supply chains . Once the "system boundaries" have been defined (i.e. the field of analysis), the LCA study allows the environmental impact generated by the various production processes included in it to be measured, identifying those with the greatest impact and thus understanding the environmental performance of each production cycle objectively. The ultimate aim of the LCA is to be able to manage the calculated environmental impacts, through their reduction and compensation.
The product Carbon Footprint relating to the life cycle of a pair of Steve's shoes is equal to 4.83 kg of CO2 eq. The materials, chosen through eco-design logic, with a high prevalence of nature-based bio polymers, have led to excellent results from the point of view of the environmental profile of the product. Exclusively through the use of vegan bio-leather produced from fruit processing by-products it is possible to reduce the impact of the product by 47% compared to animal leather. The other relevant element concerns the production phases and suppliers that are located exclusively within national borders. In this way, emissions related to transport are very low compared to the market standard. The impact benchmark* in terms of carbon footprint created on the basis of an analysis carried out by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and an important European study gave an average impact value of 12.1 kg of CO2eq. This means that Steve's shoes have an impact in terms of emissions that is 60% lower than the market standard.
